Expired cottage cheese in a regular customer’s bag is something the whole neighborhood hears about.
According to the Leket Israel and BDO food waste report (in Hebrew), about ₪5.4 billion of food could have been rescued at the retail and distribution stage in Israel in 2024. The figure covers the whole sector, not a single store.

The difference
Manual checks vs. Fefo
What changes when the app tracks the dates instead of a notebook or spreadsheet.
| Topic | Notebook, spreadsheet and manual checks | Fefo |
|---|---|---|
| Knowing what's about to expire | Checking shelf by shelf | A phone alert, days in advance |
| When expired items are found | Usually on the expiry date or after | Before expiry – while you can still sell or return them |
| Staff time | Hours of manual checks | Check only the products on the list |
| Adding products | Typing into a notebook or spreadsheet | Scan barcode and date, or photograph a delivery note |
| Teamwork | Everyone keeps their own list | One shared list, with permissions |
| What happens to the product | Often thrown away | Moved to the front, put on sale or returned to the supplier |
| Data | Hard to know how much was thrown away | Sold vs. thrown away statistics |

What is Fefo?
Fefo is an iPhone and Android app for managing product expiry dates in businesses. You scan the barcode and the date on the package, and the app alerts you before the product expires – so there is time to sell it, put it on sale or return it to the supplier.
Which businesses is it for?
Grocery stores, minimarkets, neighborhood supermarkets, kiosks, convenience stores, health food stores and delis, as well as chains with several branches – and any business that sells products with an expiry date and wants to stop finding them too late.
How do I add products?
There are three ways. Scan the barcode and point the camera at the printed date; if the product is in the database, its name fills in automatically. Photograph a delivery note, supplier invoice or product list and let AI identify the products. Or add a product without a barcode by hand, with a name and a date.
How does AI supplier intake work?
Photograph a delivery note, supplier invoice or product list, and the app identifies the products and their barcodes. Then add the expiry dates with Fast Scan.
When do I get alerts?
You choose how many days before expiry and at what time of day the alert arrives. It reaches your phone and lists only the products that need attention.
Do I need a credit card to start?
No. Download the app and sign up, and your first 30 days of Pro start automatically. When they end, you can stay on the Free plan or upgrade.
Can several employees work on the same list?
Yes. Add employees with permissions, and everyone works on the same product list and sees the same updates.
Can I manage a chain or several branches with Fefo?
Yes. Open a chain in the app, add branches and regions, and invite chain managers, region managers, branch managers and employees with a link or a QR code. Each branch has its own products and alerts. Chain and region managers see all the branches they run on one screen and get a daily summary. Each branch's data belongs to the chain, even when its manager leaves.
Why not just use a notebook or a spreadsheet?
Notebooks and spreadsheets don’t alert you: you have to remember to check them and type every product by hand. Fefo adds products by scanning, alerts you before a product expires, lets every employee work on one shared list and shows how much was sold and how much was thrown away.
Can I export my product list?
Yes. Export the product list for any date range to PDF or Excel – for example, to print a checklist for the shelves.
The next product to expire is already on your shelf. Know about it in time.
Download, scan your first products and start getting alerts. 30 days of Pro free, no credit card required.
